Santa Did Well This Year

The main thing that our kid wanted for the holidays this year was a motion gaming system.  They did not say what kind to get.  This was not going to be easy for me to decide so as not to disappoint.  But I was determined to find the perfect system to fill the first part of that wish list.

 

In the store, it seemed like I was overloaded with choices that include the kinect, the Nintendo Wii, or the Playstation move, or I could opt or a handheld system like the PSP, or the Nintendo DS, or we could get a smartphone that has all sorts of application that a person can enjoy so in the end the choice was not going to be as simple as I thought and I would have to find a way to break it down.

 

I started out checking out how the phones would work for me.  I was not convinced that someone as young as my child needed a cell phone.  I knew that I had already gone through several phones and my son was not as careful as I was.  There was also the monthly cost that was associated with a cell phone.  A basic subscription for phone service was not going to cut it.  The games also seemed a little limited.  After looking at the different options, it became clear that a smartphone was something that should wait a few years.

 

Next I went over to the full sized gaming platforms and with the recent xbox 360 kinect, there were basically three fro me to choose form and they all had different advantages and disadvantages to them according to the salesman, and in order to decide what was best it would be a matter of the age of the user, the types of games that they like to play and how experienced a gamer they are.  For the best family experience, the Wii has been well tested for quite a while.  Microsoft has come up with a platform that is considered much more advanced.  The Xbox live system puts people together through a wireless connection.  The PS 3 is well known for its high definition picture.  There were plenty of titles available for all of the platforms.

 

It was important to think about the budget as I shopped.  The cost also was dependent on what kind of accessories I wanted for the games.  The games were about the same price for all three systems.  You could also spend money buying credits that the user could use when the console was connected to the internet.  This was another cost that would need to be factored into my decision.  My mind started to go into overload so I decided to look at the hand held games.

 

These also had a wide variety of games for them.  It was neat that the systems were portable.  A child did not have to any type of wireless connection to play the games but they could f they wanted to.  This portability was both a positive and a negative for me to consider.  If they  are taken out of the home they could be lost easily.

 

In the end, we decided on the Xbox.  I do not know all of the reasons that we made this decision.  I think we kind of flipped a coin to decide.  But According to our child, it was perect.  He has already enjoyed many hours of playing games and does not look like he will stop.  Santa definitely did it right this year.
