Much like in the real world, it’s money that makes Warcraft go round. And just like in our world, money, or gold which is actually the game’s currency, doesn’t come by easily. Players have to work for it. Among the top methods of generating gold income is gold farming.
Gold farming is actually quite simple in principle. You only need to run around, slay enemies, loot them, and sell your looted items. What’s difficult is finding the time to spend on doing all these – from going to the area where the enemies are thickest or where your quest or adventure is leading you, to actually looting your enemies and selling these at the Auction House.

{Be prepared}
This doesn’t only cover having enough drinks or food or bags to carry with you. Before you head out to farm gold, you have two know two specific things – what it is you’re going to loot and where you would loot it. It is no joke to run around aimlessly in Azeroth, finding specific types of enemy to kill and loot.
{Prioritize}
Looting isn’t just the act of taking all drop offs from enemies. No, beggars can be choosers to so be choosy about the items you’ll bring along with you. Bags could be expensive. Inventory is not without limits. You need to prioritize. the rule of thumb is to carry with you only things with value. Get rid of worthless items and stack up on things that sell well at the Auction House.
{Move fast}
Although it is possible to run amok all over one place and kill every living thing in there – monster or otherwise – you don’t have all the time in the world to linger. You don’t have that leisure, so make the most of your time. There are a few things you can do to ensure that you make the most of your night. First, you have to resist distractions; go straight to where you’re bound to go. Next, ensure that you’re near an Auction House or NPC vendor. And finally, make sure that you know the way back to them. Don’t waste your time running around Azeroth, looking for the merchant you were planning to sell your items to earlier.
{Pick up a profession or two}
Warcraft professions are a way to specialize in a trade, usually geared towards creating services and items that could be sold to other players. Most of the goods produced via professions are consumable items which are in demand. Given, of course, that you have picked up inexpensive professions.
{Create a runner}
An alt is a side-kick of sorts that allows you to do other things in the game, say having a character stationed near the Auction House. An alt character is most often created to make trading and auctioning a bit convenient.
There’s no doubt, gold farming is a pain in the neck. It is a repetitive and exhausting way of generating income. There’s no other way however. Despite the availability of other methods of generating WoW income, gold farming still remains to be the most convenient, most efficient way of collecting money.
