Starcraft 2 Strategy Guide - How To Play As Terran, Protoss Or Zerg

copy PS games

SC 2 is a game with many layers of complexity. Each match up is quite different and requires different build orders and approaches. That’s why it’s essential that you make yourself familiar with each match-up of your race. Playing as random is especially difficult and to be quite frank, not many players possess the talent to master all three races.

Thousands of players from all over the world are looking for opportunities to increase their SC 2 skills every day. Tournaments and Cups get announced weekly and if you strive to perfect your skills you can make a decent living off of this.

To get you started on the right foot, I will give you a quick overview of eachof the core strategies to help you take your pick, and then send you to a place with deeper information for you to dive into. Take your pick!

Terran Strategy

In the early game, Terrans prefer to Turtle up. Thanks to the Orbital Commands, Terrans can do really well on just their Main and their Natural in the early game until the mid-game.

Another preferred tactic of Terran players is to take early map control with the versatile Viking. Being a Terran player, you have no reason not to have good intel about your opponent. If manage to scout your enemy and execute your BO perfectly without getting supply locked, you have the opportunity to do a very dangerous timing push that will leave your opponent vulnerable to future attacks.

Terran v Terran is a special match up. TvT has a big emphasis on map control. TvT is often compared to chess with both players fighting for territory until the strength of one of the enemy tips over and the other player gets crushes.

Zerg Strategy

As a Zerg player you need to be good at macro’ing. Zerg players can quickly adapt to their opponents base by losing their whole army and then return with a completely new army composition.

As a Zerg player you need a very strong economy so you can build all the necessary tech buildings. While you macro up, it’s wise to sacrifice one or two overloads in the early-mid game to gain some additional intel about the best army composition.

While all this is happening, expand your creep to give your army a big speed boost. I’ve seen good players win against the overpowered Terran race thanks to creep and keeping your army count up - too many get overrun in the early mid-game.

Core Protoss Strategy

Even if it might not seem like it, playing Protoss well is incredibly difficult. You need both micro and macro skills to really master this race. One of the key elements is the Force Field of the Sentry.

Protoss have it relatively easy to get good intel thanks to their Observers which come cloaked by default. There is no reason not to use them.

Using the intel you need to determine which tech buildings to get and which building to chrono boost at a given time. In many situations a single chrono boosted upgrade can save you a game you would definitely lose otherwise!

If your macro skills are stronger than your micro skills, get Warp Gates as fast as possible and then play aggressive Pylons to outmaneuver your opponent. If he plays armored units, add some Immortals to your army. If he plays light units, get Colossi.

If you got used to playing as Protoss and won a few games, try getting early Phoenixes to destroy your opponents eco line. If you are up against a Terran, try to focus out his MULEs as they are worth a couple of hundred minerals each!

We didn’t even scratch the surface here - thanks to the interesting abilities of Protoss units, the game can get very complex. There are many more advanced strategies like playing Dark Templar harrass.

Starcraft 2 Strategy - The Launching Of An Attack

September 27th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in copy playstation games

Starcraft 2 Strategy

It is common for most beginner and intermediate level players to just sit in their base with an army ready to go but they just cannot decide if the time is right for it. Well, here’s the key question “When’s the right time to launch an attack?” Here’s a good Starcraft 2 guide for you:

Many thoughts pass through the heads of the players, such as whether the enemy has any army himself or not, will his defenses hold up against the assault, is scouting before attacking essential and/or possible, etc. All of these are perfectly valid questions and considerations to make before going into battle, since a reckless assault can lead to a big setback for you both in terms of combative strength and economy.

The only time you should consider going on the offensive is when you already have a back-up plan. Basically, this means that you will need to have two plans ready before you attack your opponent.

Assuming that you are playing the Zerg race and have about a dozen Roaches and Zerglings each (which is a very formidable army for the early game). Now, if you are not planning to create more of these units immediately, having them idle around your base serves no purpose. So you decide to use this force to attack your enemy, but take a moment to consider having a back-up plan in case the attack fails. You may consider building a Hydralisk Den followed by laying down an expansion.

Now is the time to send over your army to the enemy’s base to pay him a little visit. If you win the battle, you will have the advantage in the entire game. If, however, you lose your army, you already have a stack of Minerals to be used, an expansion you can complete and a queued up group of Hydralisks to defend or reinforce the attack. Either way, the decision of proceeding into battle proves to be favorable to you since you only lost units you could afford to lose, but your enemy might not have been ready to lose his units this way. Starcraft 2: How To Build APM

September 22nd, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in copy playstation games

Hey Jim here,

Today is going to be an important lesson into how to increase your Actions Per Minute or APM, now the important thing to remember is that the reason you want to increase your APM is so that you can perform necessary actions and build a solid economy whilst executing excellent micro. APM Is extremely important, APM Stands for Actions Per Minute, which is why it is important.. Spamming clicks and hotkeys will technically increase the APM on the replay, but it will not increase your actual APM in game..

Starcraft 2 How To Increase APM Alot

Lets start off by looking at the actions you would like to be doing per minute, doing this will allow you to see where you can increase your current APM.

- Building SCVs/Drones/Probes
- Building Buildings
- Micro-ing Your Army
- Building More Army
- Scouting The Map
- Harassing The Enemy
- Teching/Researching
- Communicating With Your Team (Will not necessarily add to the actual recorded APM inside a replay)
- Expanding Your Base

Ok having looked at these actions, how many of these do you currently get done with in one minute?
Are you able to seperate actions out and casually perform one action from the other giving the action a time of 6.6 Seconds?

Maintaining excellent macro and micro might come natural to you, in which case this article will help in building on the solid foundation you already have..

Top Tips for increasing APM
- Learn all of the hotkeys instinctively.
- Hotkeys are called hot for a reason so use them..
- Switch from micromanagement to macromanagement..
- One of the best ways to get an advantange is to use countering control groups..
- Always Get Drones.
- The quickness of your mouse can help a lot when fighting tough battles..
- Play using a smooth slick keyboard.

These tips are here to provide you with the starting grounds for an above average APM, the reason this helps so much is highly down to the hotkeys, if you comfortably use the hotkeys and monitor your APM in replays after the games you play on battle.net then this will give you a natural ability not only to start to win a lot more Starcraft 2 games, but also to take this across to other strategy games allowing you to beat enemies in them as well.

Keep focused on the mini map you will never know when the enemy might appear on it.! The main reason keeping an eye on the mini map is so helpful is that you can not possibly cover the whole land around your base, your scout, your army and your enemies base by not using the mini map. Use it and it will help you amazingly if you see that red or blue dot appearing on the mini map flick to it and check it out with your scout which could be hotkeyed as well, excellent scouts during heavy macro games include observers, overseers, scans and vikings.

Did you enjoy this article? I hope so, it was to give you insight and knowledge on how to increase your APM which can be extremely benficial, if you need more info checkout Shokz Guide..

Jim - Hot Keying is for the Pros..

Starcraft 2 Strategies - Handling With Protoss And Terran

September 18th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in copy playstation games

Starcraft 2 Strategy Guide

Assuming that you are facing a Protoss opponent. Zealots in the beginning are too slow to be of much use, so as long as you have units fast a zealot rush needn’t be feared. What is to be feared is when Protoss get Warp Gates and really start pumping units. It is wiser to deal with the protoss opponent quickly, or gain a mineral advantage early on. This is because once Protoss start pumping units, they can be very tough to deal with. Their Immortals are a powerful siege and assault unit, very deadly on tanks.

Sentry’s provide extra shielding from oncoming attacks, and Stalkers provide the much extra and needed range damage towards the army.

A collasus or a few may tower above the battle reigning chaos down on ground troops in wide swaths of a destructive laser.

Terran are tough to deal with, you will have to accept that sieging there base from the front is nearly impossible with there army behind it.

Since Terran will seal up their entrance with Supply Depots, do not expect to be let in.

Siege tanks provide fire from behind their buildings, up on cliffs, and will deteriorate your ground force before you can ring the doorbell.

Giant assault mechs called the Thor’s are deadly to both ground and air units.

Giant mechanical flying ships with the firepower of a small army, are one late game threat from the Terran armada you don’t want to face.

What should you expect from the Terran? One very common, and effective strategy, is a Marauder push.

If terran aren’t throwing reapers up the cliffs of your base, or flying invisible missile helicopters called Banshees into your base, you can expect them to be amassing Marauders.

How To Beat Every Starcraft 2 Match With A Terran

September 8th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in copy playstation games

Trying to improve your Starcraft 2 strategy with the Terran race? Here’s an overview over all the match-ups, the best strategy to beat other races with a Terran and the most popular tactics. It doesn’t matter if you fight another Terran or against Protoss and Zerg - some core strategies are so important that you simply have to know about them.

Here are my tips for the Starcraft 2 Terran vs Terran match-up. Two aspects are more important that all the others: The right positioning and air dominance. You need to things to have a chance to win the match-up: Map Control and Map Awareness.

It’s a matter of fact that the player with the most Siege Tanks and the superior line of sight has a huge advantage. If your tanks can outrange the enemy, you have already won. That’s why you simply need the air superiority - to be the player who can scout ahead and get your Siege Tanks in a better position.

You can only break through a well positioned Tank line if you manage to catch your opponent off guard. To find the perfect timing to attack the enemy army, scout and scan all the time and controll the map.

Let’s take a look at the Starcraft 2 Terran vs Zerg match-up. First of all, you have to improve your Wall-In. They often use the “Baneling Bust” - a strategy to overwhelm the Terran defenses. It’s all about fast Banelings that focus and destroy your ramp-blocking buildings. Use larger structures with more hit-points to make sure the Zerg can’t break through your defenses.

when it comes to your own attack surprise the Zerg with Banshees, Hellions and Reapers - the Zerg race itself is very vulnerable to flying units early in the game.

Now let’s take a look at the Starcraft 2 Terran vs Protoss match-up. The most important strategy you have to know is how to counter fast Void Rays. The best way to counter them is to produce mass Marines, but there’s a catch.

If you send them in one by one, the Void Rays will exterminate them quickly and you have already lost. Instead gather them at a secure point in your base and attack when you have a critical mass of Marines that the enemy can’t get rid off.

Starcraft 2 Strategies - Improving Rates Of Winning

August 23rd, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in copy playstation games

Starcraft 2 Strategy

It is not uncommon for gamers to rely on well formed Starcraft 2 strategies during a game, but what separates the good Diamond league players from the rest is the way in which they implement their strategies.

There are gamers out there who have played hundreds upon hundreds of matches and made up, perfected and executed their very own Starcraft 2 secrets or strategies. They have managed to hit the roof with their Wins vs. Losses ratio and know how to counter almost all Starcraft 2 strategies.

But all of these people realize one thing early on: There is no one perfect Starcraft 2 strategy guide that you can opt for to win all the games you play. As a matter of fact, if you go into a game with a predetermined Starcraft 2 strategy, you will more likely be on the losing side of the match.

One of the best Starcraft 2 strategies that any expert player might divulge to you is as follows:

  1. Keep scouting a priority and gather as much information of your opponent as you can.
  2. Strategize your further actions based on the knowledge you have on your opponent.
  3. Attack and engage your enemy in a battle if that would prove to be favorable to you.

Notice how this “Starcraft 2 strategy” has no build order or unit recommendations. The reason is because no such Starcraft 2 strategy is fool-proof. It is all about being actively aware of the entire game scenario and thinking ahead of the competition.

Early game set-ups such as these, pave the foundation for the rest of the entire game. Build a unit that you feel will be more helpful in giving you more control of the game. Continuous scouting should tell you what your enemy is amassing and you should build counters for that. At this point, knowledge of countering is invaluable. Judge his army by all the buildings he makes.

Now once your army are in place, go for an assault if you think your foe is currently in a weak state and that you can win the battle. If you doubt your victory, go for an expansion.

Once you’ve had your second base up and running and the enemy is engaged with your units, use the time you have on your hands to pump out some high damage units. Once you have them, you may rush them over to your enemy’s base and watch his empire crumble.

Do note that this Starcraft 2 guide demands great alertness and response from your side. It is not a minute by minute guide that tells you what to make and when to attack. Just make sure you are always able to counter what your opponent throws at you and never go into a battle you believe you will lose. Remain flexible throughout this Starcraft 2 strategy and you will be playing like pros in no time.

StarCraft Strategy Guides

August 22nd, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in copy playstation games

With the release of Starcraft 2 came the release of a large number of Starcraft 2 Strategy Guides, some not as good as others. I was looking for an edge and purchased a particularly bad strategy guide and after that I took it on myself to review as many strategy guides as I could so nobody made my mistakes.

I also noticed the lack of guides out there for beginners that are only just starting the game and may not understand the terminology or layout of some of the guides that were available. Seeing as I’ve been playing Starcraft 2 since beta, I was a huge fan of Starcraft 1 to, I thought I would write a number of beginners guide to Starcraft to give people starting out in the ladders a chance.

For those just starting here is the rundown of the different races and their play styles. If you are chasing something more you can visit the guide section of my site Starcraft Command

Terran

Terran is considered the easiest to learn and is the most popular by far because the strategies they use are easy to apply in a live battle. The Terran race’s strength lies in being able to set up impenetrable defenses and being able to hold the choke points like ramps and narrow passageways. A Terrans biggest weak point is the open battlefield as both Protoss and the Zerg have the advantage over them.

Protoss

Protoss sit right in the middle of the other two races sharing strength from each. Protoss are the most flexible race having strengths in Defense and Offense. The Protoss aren’t able to hold out as well as the Terrans can and neither can they attack as aggresivley as the Zerg but they can flex to whatever situation you throw at them.

Zerg

The two words that best describe the Zerg are aggressive and fast. Zerg are the hardest of the 3 races to master because you need really good macro management. A Zerg army will always have twice as many units as any other side and this is what makes them so deadly on an open field because the Zerg will just swarm around enemies and outnumber them.

Strategies and Build Orders

Starcraft has been on many occasions described as an intricate chess game. It shares many of the same skills, you need to be able to read your opponents strategy, understand what they are trying to do can counter it at the same time as making an attack.

This means there is no perfect strategy as every strategy has a counter strategy to combat it but the more strategies you know the easier it will be to know what your opponent is doing and how to counter it. It’s always good to go into a game with a starting strategy as well, a set formulae to apply until you know what your opponent is doing, and that’s where build orders come in.
