Xbox 3 rings Towel Trick

January 9th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in copy playstation games

If you own an Xbox 360, you most likely have heard of the red ring of death and probably have heard of the Xbox Ring of Death Towel Trick. The “trick” behind the Towel Trick is that you wrap a towel around your Xbox so it gets hot enough to somehow get rid of the red ring of death. The thing is, the towel trick may work for you, but it will only work short-term and will damage your Xbox in the long term. Keep reading and I’ll explain to you in more detail.

This is why you get the red 3 flashing lights: it has to do with the solder underneath the chips. Microsoft decided to try and save money by using a cheaper material for the solder that was better for the environment, but the quality wasn’t as good. When the Xbox 360 heats up, the soldering joints expand because it is made of some sort of metal. It’s all fine and dandy if the soldering joints expands, it’s supposed to do that. The real problem is when it cools down. What happens is that air bubbles start to form inside the soldering joints and it known as cold solder joints. So with the Xbox constantly heating up and cooling down like it’s supposed to do, these weak point begin to crack.

This is why the Xbox 360 towel trick will just make things worse.

The way the towel trick works is that it gets too hot and the solder melts, but it also creates more issues like more air bubbles. The cracks that form are hairline cracks and it is just enough so that energy cannot be passed from the board to the chips.

I highly recommend that you try 360FixKit.com to fix your Xbox.
