How bogus is it that the initial time you fired up Mafia Wars you had to select a character type even though you had no idea about leveling up strategy in Mafia Wars? Unfortunately, you can’t alter your Mafia Wars character selection anymore. When Mafia Wars first came out, you could alter character type in exchange for Godfather points, but that option was removed from the game.
You hear rumors about Zynga bringing that Mafia Wars character switcheroo option back, yet so far no dice. You’d expect Zynga to bring back the Mafia Wars character switching option again just because it would be a cash cow for them. Loads of Mafia Wars addicts would love to buy another character type. It’s not like Zynga to leave money on the table.
Looks like for the time being you will be the character that you chose when you were a noob without any Mafia Wars strategy for leveling. These are the 3 character choices in Mafia Wars:
Mogul
Maniac
Fearless
A character type has one major benefit, one top mafia spot, and 1 intermittent power. Check out| the Mafia Wars character descriptions individually so you can follow the leveling debate that comes next.
Mafia Wars Mogul Character
Major benefit: receives the sixty minute take every fifty four minutes.
Top Mafia spot: Bagman
Unique power: If you are promoted into Bagman in another’s mafia, you sometimes earn 2xs the money on jobs
Maniac Character in Mafia Wars
Primary benefit: Energy rebuilds at one point every three minutes, rather than one point every 5
Top Mafia spot: Button Man
Bonus power: When you occupy the Buttonman spot in another player’s crew, you can attack a Mafia Wars player with superior stats, mafia size, and equipment and have the chance to win the fight anyway.
Character: Fearless
Primary benefit: Health returns more quickly - one point every 2 minutes rather than one every 3.
Top Mafia position: Wheelman
Unique Power: When you occupy the Wheelman spot in another gamer’s crew, a Fearless can complete a certain percentage of jobs without losing energy.
I don’t know any Mafia Wars strategy experts who argue the Mogul character helps you level more quickly when you are after job-based leveling. Sure, having the additional 144 minutes of “take” every 24 hours is sweet for cash flow. Being a Mogul character is a real plus in the lower levels while a Mafia Wars player is trying to balance income and upkeep. But whether you are a Mogul or not, odds are you’ll iron out the money objective pretty quickly in the game. That makes the Mogul character’s primary benefit a little useless before you get to far up the leveling ladder.
Leaving the Mogul character aside, there is a heated debate raging about whether Maniac or Fearless is the best character for strategic Mafia Wars leveling. These are summaries of the debate:
Arguments in Favor of Maniac
Speed leveling is all about energy, and Maniac is the character with the best energy recovery. In Mafia Wars, you can’t ever have enough energy. Sure, the Maniac doesn’t have the best bonus power because once you know what you’re doing in Mafia Wars you only attack when you can win anyway. But the rapid energy recovery is where it’s at for leveling. And that’s why you want to pick a Maniac character when you want to get to top boss fast.
Arguments in Favor of Fearless
Fearless is the best Mafia Wars character for speed leveling. While fast health recovery is regarded as a throw away quality by most, the come-and-go power of doing some jobs at no energy cost is so good that speedy leveling is a guarantee for Fearless. The Mafia Wars leveling strategy for a Fearless is to have another player put you in that Wheelman spot despite your lack of experience. As a Wheelman, you will get 6-11% of your jobs done with paying any energy points. Those conserved energy points allow a Fearless to level up much faster. The Fearless power gets more significant as you advance into higher tiers where jobs demand even more energy. Plus, Fearless’ health recovery may be a bit valueless in NYC, but in Cuba it’s aces because you take a pounding on the fightlist and pesos for the hospital are scarce.
When you’re after Mafia Wars leveling, which character is best? If you can land a Wheelman in someone’s crew, I’ve got to select Fearless as the superior Mafia Wars leveling character. More important to Mafia Wars strategy overall is the advantage both characters have in common. If you want to succeed at speedy leveling, you’ll have to master handling your Mafia Wars energy. Clearly, Mafia Wars leveling pivots on maximizing your energy.
The bad news is that you are stuck with the Mafia Wars character you selected on that first session. Improving your energy strategy will escalate your Mafia Wars leveling no matter what character you are! Another avenue is to open an additional Facebook profile you use just for a Mafia Wars speed level up character. A new Fearless character would benefit from promotion into top mafia Wheelman and receive gifts from your existing character, as well! Just don’t have so many characters going that you can’t keep track (yeah, don’t get me started on that story!
