Whilst it is great news that the new Bond Movie is finally going into production in time for 2012 there are still questions going around about the time of spy gadgets will be in this movie (if there will be gadgets). Here seems to be one of the main reasons people are pondering over it.

Where Have The Gadgets Gone

if you look back at the last couple of Bond movies they have not included any gadgets at all really and this for me is the one thing that has let me down a lot recently, Bond was all about the gadgets. It is all about a bit of bug detectors and a few of those vehicle tracking systems to impress the fans. Although the last Pierce movie was a bit too gadget heavy what we want as fans is something in between this and the last movie, just like the old movies used to have!

Craig Wants In

Craig himself had actually said that he really wants to see some great gadgets in the movies and if the main actor wants then usually he gets, it is safe to say that every other Bond has had some great toys to play with in the films, why should Craig not be given this amazing chance?. For an actor that plays Bond you will find that it must be one of the most important things out there.

Keeping It Seem Real

Another thing that MGM are wanting to do is to make sure that Bond is getting better and growing with the fans so they always need to make sure they are keeping it real. There are many gadgets out there that they could use that we would believe but there are also some out there that are just not needed and people would not get why they have been used, it is important to get these right.

So what do we think about Bond, is it time for some more gadgets??

Bond, Where Are The Gadgets?

October 26th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in copy dvds

It is not until I recently purchased the complete collection of Bond movies that I realised just how many gadgets are in the older movies. I have like many people my age seen them all before but as I am now older and watching them again you get to see a better angle at the gadgets that were used.

Although I am only up to The Man With The Golden Gun at the moment the gadgets used (rarely) by Bond today are not as out there, not as funny and just don’t have the impact that they did back in the golden age of Bond. Why is this and why do you never see things like spy phones and other spy gadgets in Bond anymore?

The New Movies Take A Different Route

It seems to be that as soon as Daniel Craig stepped in the directors and writers have taken a different approach from the previous films in that the gadgets involved are few and far between and that when they do feature they are rather dull and simple gadgets like perhaps hidden spy cameras or something like this.

Even Daniel Craig himself has suggested that he wants gadgets in the film as to him playing Bond is not only about the women, fast cars and action sequences but the gadgets also. The gadgets have saved Bond’s life on numerous occasions over the years and have helped him to get rid of many main villains and bad guy during the years too!.

Bond gadgets in my eyes make the movies and without them they are just like the Bourne films, not a bad thing but not something that is Bond and this is what is disappointing.

If they ever get round to the new film let us hope they will contain gadgets again to show the fans it is not going downhill from here!

The James Bond Film Series

July 12th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in copy dvds

It almost seems impossible that the James Bond movies are approaching 50 years of age and now span 22 movies in the series. The only other movie franchises to rival it are Star Wars, Harry Potter, and Lord of the Rings but while they may have captured the imaginations of many filmgoers and taken more money at the theatres, the James Bond films almost certainly hold the record for worldwide audiences and hold an evergreen appeal.

That appeal can be summed up neatly when they say every woman wants to be with Bond and every man wants to be him, there is something in his character which people universally idenify with. What James Bond represents is the man who can do anything he wants, which is certainly an attractive quality, especially if it is you that possesses it. And as well as being able to do anything, he always seems to know exactly what he wants, as well as how to go about ordering it, whaever the situation; think about our own lives when we sometimes doubt so much we don’t act as we become paralysed by fear.

Although the early films made a start out of Sean Connery, the films are bigger than a single actor. Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig have all donned the tuxedo and ordered a vodka martini, skaen, not stirred. What they have in common is a selection of one-liners to get them out of any situation and don’t forget those gadgets, from the cool - remember the jetpack - to the ridiculous - the gondola that turns into a hovercraft in Moonraker must take the prize for dumbest gadget.

And the appeal of James Bond is universal, with a wide range of ages going to the more recent films. While the older generation may hark back to the days of Sean Connery, one of the reasons for their continued success is that the have managed to keep up with the times and reinvent themselves for each generation. Just look at the difference between From Russia With Love, Moonraker and Casino Royale, for instance.

With production suspended on the next film in the series - currently known as Bond 23 - due to the crisis at MGM, it is unknown when the next James Bond movie will be released. I don’t think I’m alone in hoping it won’t be long before work resumes on the next 007 movie.

Serious Trouble At MGM Means Bond Movie May Not Die Another Day

May 31st, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in copy dvds

MGM is a movie studio that carries $ 1.7 billion more in debt then it is valued at, and because of this financial difficulty, the James Bond franchise has been put on hold. The MGM studio is saying that the franchise needs money now - and James Bond is not the only movie standby that is at risk.

Bond 23, James Bond movies at risk

Bond 23, the latest James Bond film, was in pre-production stages for a 2011 release date. “We do not know when development will resume and we not have a release date” was the statement of the MGM Bond 23 producers. Though they own the merchandising and movie rights to James Bond and Bond 23, EON productions cannot fund full movie production. Bond films have been fairly consistently produced since the first movie, with just one six-year break between 1989 and 1995. The latest Bond film was Quantum of Solace, released in 2008.

Franchises other than James Bond at risk

MGM funds many more movies than just James Bond 23. MGM studios is looking for any other studio or personal loan companies that might be willing to take on its $ 3.7 billion debt. MGM maintains half the rights to The Hobbit, the Lord of the Rings prequel. There are over 4,000 movie titles that MGM owns through the United Artists brand. The production and distribution of all MGM films is at risk until a buyer steps forward to take over MGM.

Buyers competing for MGM

The only release MGM has put out this year was Hot Tub Time Machine - a movie that grossed only $ 42.2 million. MGM put the word out that they were looking for buyers last November. Lionsgate, Time Warner and Access Industries put in bids for the beleaguered studio. Since then, Lionsgate has removed their bid from the process. The James Bond franchise would most likely be a part of any purchase of the MGM studio - meaning Time Warner or Access Industries would have control of James Bond.

Is Activision Making A New Spiderman Game?

September 30th, 2009 by admin | No Comments | Filed in copy playstation games

Yesterday, Activision announced their earnings report for the last quarter. They have announced that they made giant $200 million profit on a $1 billion earnings. However, the real piece of video game news behind this announcement is some new game releases were hinted at within their financial report.

Dropped into the financial report were some hints that we could be seeing new games for Spiderman, Tony Hawk and James Bond. The president of Activision, Mike Griffth, did confirm the new James Bond game, however, he failed to mention the Spiderman and Tony Hawk games. Unfortunately, nothing really was said about the games, just that they’re in development.

The most recent Bond game was released by Activision, and it has been one of the best James Bond games so far. That game featured the adventures from 2 films, Casino Royale and the more recent, Quantum of Solace. That game was built by Treyarch, the makers of Call of Duty: World At War, which might be why it picked up so many good video game ratings. However, Treyarch was not mentioned as the developers behind this new announcement.

Nothing was also said about the storyline because currently there is now new bond film released. so really we have no idea where the storyline could go, it could be based entirely on a new story, a previously released film, or many even a prequel to a yet to be announced film.

As for the other 2, there have been a number of hints at a new Spiderman film being announced, which no doubt would also get a game so that one is a possibility. Finally, the last game hinted at, Tony Hawks, I don’t think this is going to happen because with Tony Hawk: Ride being released in November, I don’t believe they would try and release a second so quickly after Ride. Although, you never know what they will release next, we’ll just have to wait and see.
