When it comes to hybrid classes in the World of Warcraft the most popular one is definitely the Druid class. The reason for this is surely a lot of fun that this amazing class has to offer. If you choose the Alliance side, you can become a Druid by choosing the Night Elf race, while if you are playing on the Horde side you can become a Druid by choosing the Tauren race.

With so many different abilities Druids are mostly famous for their shape-shifting. Druids have a lot of forms they can shapeshift into like Bear, Cat, Sea Lion and Travel form. The BC expansion, Druids obtained another form - the flight form. While all other classes had to wait until level 70 to be able to use their flying mounts, Druids could use their flight form on the level 68!. A fun thing when it comes to this ability was that a Druid flight form is an instant cast same as any other form they had which made them even more movable.

Druids could become very good healers, casters, melee dpsers and tanks and their talent tree is divided into three specializations – Feral Combat, Balance and Restoration. With the Balance talent build, a Druid will be able to shapeshift into another very fun form – the Moonkin which will allow him to become a typical caster damage dealer.

Druid’s moonkin form will afflict the whole raid and all other players will have an amazing benefit with +5% on critical strike rating. A Moonkin, or as popularly called “Boomkin” is a typical mana user.

However, to become a really good dps, a Moonkin needs to learn how to rotate his spells together with a few DoT (Damage Over Time) spells he has. He also has a few AoE spells – Starfall, Typhoon and Hurricane. Moonkins need to have good gear with as much spell power as possible and a lot of haste, crit and hit rating. Feral Druids can choose between a tank spec or a melee dps spec.

While in bear form they will be really good tanks since they will have a lot of armor and stamina, and if they choose the cat form they can also be really good melee dpsers. With his talent points in the Restoration tree, a druid will get another special form – the tree form. While in the tree form druid’s spells will cost him less mana and the overall healing will be enhanced for 6% done by anybody to anybody in the same raid group. A druid healer is the ultimate Healing over Time (HoT) healer and therefore he is very much appreciated in raids. Their healing abilities are dependent on their gear which needs to have a lot of spell power and spirit and it is said that Resto Druids are able to regenerate mana much faster than any other healing class.

Druids wear leather even though they can also wear cloth if needed. If you choose to become a Druid tank or melee dps it is strongly advisable to avoid wearing cloth since armors made from leather always have much better stats. However, armors made from cloth can serve good to Resto Druids and, in some cases, Moonkins since they don’t take direct damage. For a Druid tank it is of the essence to have as strongest armor as he can get with as much Stamina as possible.

If you choose either PvE or PvP game play, have no doubts when it comes to the Druid class since they are really fun to play and you can always change your spec. Leveling a druid also goes quite easy and is advisable to start with the Feral Combat build. Don’t forget that a Druid can always instantly shapeshift in order to swim faster, breathe underwater and of course travel faster.

If you enjoy a varied play style, that includes a good balance of combat and healing, then the Druid class may be a great match for you. In the WoW Druid guide I discuss some of the Druid’s strengths, weaknesses and abilities so you can decide for yourself.

Druids are in many ways the Jack of all trades in WoW and this gives them a way of filling different roles and playing styles at will. It’s important to know from the start that the Druid class is only available to the Tauren and Night Elves.

Druids can not only tank and DPS with the best of them but also heal really well. Druids get an edge in combat with their ability to shape shift into other forms. For tanking Druids can take the form of a Dire Bear, and for Melee they can take the shape of a Cat. This gives them a lot of flexiblity when filling differents roles of different playing situations. In the following part of the WoW Druid guide we’ll talk about some of the Druid’s many strengths.

  • Healing and Tanking: Druids are versatile and are excellent tanks and healers.
  • PvP: Excellent PvP class.
  • Crowd Control: They are really resistant to almost any form of crowd control.
  • Stealth: Once they’ve taken the Cat form, Druids are able to stealth.
  • Instant Run Speed boosting buff
  • Resurrection: The only class in Warcraft able to resurrect during battle.

No WoW Druid guide would be complete if the weaknesses weren’t mentioned, so here’s a list of some to keep in mind.

  • Not as Strong as Specialized classes: They’re not as good at the different roles as classes that specialize in that one role.
  • Armor: Leather is the most armor they can wear. You’ll need multiple sets of armor to play various roles.
  • Difficult to Master: Druids are perhaps of the most difficult classes to master. Playing this class well requires a player who can manage all the abilities and roles well.

To conclude the WoW Druid guide let’s take a look at some of their defining abilities. The following is a list of abilities that make the Druid class incredibly tough.

  • Fantastic ability to excape almost all forms of crowd control.
  • Instant run speed boost.
  • Ability to stealth.
  • Able to completely incapacitate enemies.
  • They use very little mana and time to heal, making them really efficient.
  • Great escape artists

So if you enjoy filling more than one role and playing in multiple play styles then you may want to consider the Druid. You’ll actually feel like you’re changing classes in the game.
